Kitchen Trends You Can’t Miss in 2022

As we have been forced to spend more time in our homes, the past two years have shaped the home design industry for the better. Creating spaces that invite us to rest, live and gather has never been more important. Specifics will come and go, but the values we’ve learned and implemented are here to stay! In the world of kitchen design, 2022 is looking creative, cozy and a little bit luxe. Let’s dive in and check out a few kitchen trends you don’t want to miss!

More Cozy, Less Clutter

2022 is about bringing in what matters and leaving out what clutters. In a word: priorities. Get rid of unnecessary appliances and bulky knife blocks. Bring in beautiful things you use every day. Maybe it’s a wooden serving tray with your favorite cookbooks kept at arm’s reach. (The best cookbooks for this? Hardcovers with dust jackets removed. Sacrilegious to some, but timeless and beautiful nonetheless. It’s all about simplicity and beauty.)

Up in the Air

Kitchen lighting is finally getting the attention she deserves. If you ask me, it’s about time!

From focused, task lighting to ambient lighting, long gone are the days of grandma’s fluorescent bulbs unceremoniously dropped in the center of the kitchen. Kevin Francis O’Gara, interior designer of Atlanta, says retailers are expected to step up to the plate with more options than ever.

Lights aren’t the only thing up in the air.  Designer range hoods are still going strong, bringing just the right amount of pomp and circumstance to the kitchen. The statement range hood remains a popular kitchen focal point and we expect them to continue to pop up in 2022 kitchen designs.

Kitchen Design Tip: Be sure to balance your range hood with your pendant lighting. If your range hood is ornate or visually heavy in appearance, go towards a minimalistic pendant and vice versa. Otherwise, you’ll end up with too many details clambering for your attention, giving your eyes no place to rest.

Going Green

Green has been ramping up for a bit now, but Austin designer, Claire Zinneker predicts "the green renaissance" will be in full swing this year in both paint and decor.

Included in this verde trend is the ever-impressive green marble. When paired with light wood tones, white or lighter shades of green, it brings a lux nod to nature. Pro tip: Avoid pairing it with cherry wood to keep it from looking dated.

Take it Out Back

The patio and outdoor kitchen are having a moment worth noting here even though they are not usually included in the kitchen design category. Why not though, right? After all, the outdoor kitchen is simply an extension of the indoor kitchen, giving it every right to be included in the 2022 kitchen trends.

Don't Hide This Pantry

In the last year, kitchen’s have once again filled with small appliances, cookbooks and larger quantities of food as many consumers’ shopping and dining habits have changed. The humble pantry has gained new appreciation, providing storage and even work space when possible.

Slab Over Tile

Traditional tile has moved over and his big brother, Slab, has taken the spotlight. Easier to clean (goodbye grout lines) and a lot more glam, the continuous slab from counter to backsplash is going to be around for a while, making bold statements everywhere he goes.
